SXP2WL SD103SII complete telescope set with GoTo mount, tripod, and eyepieces

This high-quality apochromatic refractor telescope set impresses with its 103-mm-SD optics. The telescope is manufactured in Japan and stands out with its excellent workmanship, sharpness, and contrast performance. The advantage of this SD refractor also lies in its short construction length and low weight.

You will be amazed when observing the Moon's surface with its craters or Saturn with its ring system. On a good night, you can also see Jupiter’s two bright cloud bands and many smaller details, as well as the great red spot on the planet. On moonless nights, you can observe the Andromeda Nebula, Orion Nebula, Eagle Nebula, Lagoon Nebula, and many other interesting objects, but fainter celestial objects will also become visible under a good sky thanks to this large aperture.

This telescope set "Made in Japan" leaves nothing to be desired. The FPL53 glass used in the telescope reproduces an extremely clear and sharp image by eliminating residual color errors. The SD glass is designed to bring all rays – violet, red, blue, yellow, and green – precisely onto the same plane. The special lens material reduces chromatic aberration across all colors.

The new Vixen SD103SII no longer uses spacers, which significantly improves image quality, especially for bright stars. On photographic images, there are no more spikes around stars, which were previously caused by the spacers. In combination with the optional SD Reducer HD Kit or SD Flattener HD (not included), this refractor telescope allows full-frame SLR cameras to be illuminated with a 44-mm image circle.

The older ED81SII, ED103S, ED115S refractors were originally designed for visual observers and APS-C camera users. However, the new SD series, with the addition of new internal baffles, is optimized for full-frame cameras. The large 60-mm focuser also allows the attachment of heavy cameras without tilting. Additionally, the included flip mirror allows comfortable observation even in difficult observing positions and offers a T2 thread for connecting a DSLR camera. This way, you can observe in straight view or at a 90° angle. The handle attached to the tube rings provides secure handling when transporting the telescope. The stable metal tripod ensures vibration-free mounting of the telescope and mount, even in windy conditions.

The SXP2WL mount is easily operated via a Wi-Fi module with a smartphone or tablet. The free STAR BOOK Wireless app is available for user-friendly control of the mount. This allows you to use practical sky navigation features such as automatic GoTo slewing to specific celestial objects easily via your smartphone or tablet. As the power consumption of the conventional LCD screen (STAR BOOK TEN) is eliminated, the power consumption of the mount is reduced by up to 20%. This allows astronomical observations and astrophotography over longer periods.
By tapping the desired celestial object from a list, it is automatically slewed into the telescope’s field of view, and tracking begins. An existing STAR BOOK TEN controller can also be used with this mount without any problems. Equipped with the same precision stepper motors as the top model, the AXD mount, the SXP2WL brings a new standard of performance and precision to the Vixen mount family.
The axis cross of the SXP2 mount, with a photographic load capacity of 17 kg, is just 13.3 kg light, making it ideal for mobile observations. Additionally, the motors located in the lower part of the mount also serve as a counterweight. Thus, the mount requires fewer counterweights for balancing.

Larger ball bearings are used in the SXP2 mount compared to previous models to increase accuracy and load capacity. The mount housing also features greater material thickness. And to make the polar block even more stable, the axis cross is firmly clamped into a fork.

Very Precise Tracking with P-PEC Function
The SXP2 mount comes with the modern STAR BOOK TEN controller, which offers the P-PEC function for particularly precise tracking. "PEC" stands for "Periodic Error Correction." The system corrects mechanical errors that cause periodic errors in the gear systems. For the SXP2 equatorial mount, the P-PEC function is available, which evolved from the PEC function. The P-PEC function stores your correction data, even after the mount's power is turned off, meaning you do not need to re-enter the data each time, allowing for faster operation and more precise tracking.

Quiet Belt Drive System with Minimal Play
In conventional motor drive systems of equatorial mounts, gears driven by the motor are used. However, this design has the disadvantage of creating some play between the gears. To avoid the inaccuracies that arise from this, the SXP2 mount uses a belt drive system. This significantly reduces both gear play and drive noise. Additionally, the system reacts more quickly when corrections are needed.

16 Bearings
The mechanical components of the SXP2 mount contain a total of 16 bearings. A set of tapered roller bearings is used for the RA axis to provide more stability for precise tracking.

Stable Altitude Block for Alignment
The SXP2 mount uses the same fork as the heavier AXJ mount. This new design allows for quick and stable latitude adjustment.

Easy and Accurate Polar Alignment via Reference Stars
The pre-installed 6x20 polar finder allows you to set the polar alignment for both the northern and southern hemispheres. The polar finder offers an adjustable illuminated reticle with an automatic shut-off function. The brightness can be adjusted in 8 levels to suit your individual needs. The polar finder also features a direct alignment using three reference stars and can achieve an accuracy of up to 3 arcminutes.

Variable Mount Head
The mount head has a diameter of 35 mm and eight threaded holes for M8 screws, arranged 45 degrees apart. An optional accessory plate can be mounted directly or in combination with an optional dovetail mounting block. Additionally, the threaded holes on the mount head allow for the use of rails from other manufacturers.

The stable, rigid mount body with highly accurate tracking has been further optimised by the P-PEC function. This makes the SXP2 a high-precision, easy-to-use mount that will delight astrophotographers and observers alike.

Special Motor Mounting for Fewer Counterweights
The heavy RA and DEC motor units are installed in the lower part of the declination axis, so the centre of gravity of the axis cross lies under the RA and DEC axes. As a result, the declination body acts as a counterweight. Thanks to the flat mount head, the mount can also be balanced with significantly fewer counterweights.

Retractable Counterweight Bar
The counterweight bar is made of solid stainless steel and has a diameter of 20 mm. It is compatible with all counterweights from the SX and GP mount series. The counterweight bar is housed within the declination body.

Accessory shoe
For quick and easy polar alignment, the #35511 Polar Meter can be slid onto this shoe.

Latitude adjustment
The latitude can be adjusted between 0 and 70 degrees (divided into 3 zones and adjustable +/- 15 degrees per zone, for high, mid, and low latitudes).

The Vixen Wifi Adapter in Detail

The Vixen Wifi Adapter for EQ mounts allows you to control your Vixen mount via a smartphone or tablet. With this, you can perform sky navigation without any cabling using the free STAR BOOK Wireless smartphone app. This app quickly turns your mobile device into a controller for the equatorial mount. The mount's response delay, often considered the biggest disadvantage of wireless connections, has been reduced to a level comparable to wired solutions.

Reduced power consumption compared to traditional controllers with an LCD monitor
The mount’s power consumption is reduced by up to 20%, enabling longer observation sessions compared to traditional wired controllers like the STAR BOOK TEN.

Operation similar to the STAR BOOK TEN controller
The STAR BOOK Wireless app has a similar layout to the STAR BOOK TEN controller. Depending on the star chart settings, it contains up to 259,000 celestial objects. Tap on an object from the object list, and start the GoTo. The mount will automatically point to the target, bringing it into the telescope’s field of view. All the popular features of the STAR BOOK TEN are retained.

Convenient operation
While looking through the telescope, you can control the mount by swiping on the star chart within the app. Since there are no buttons, you simply slide your finger across the star chart to operate the mount easily.

Comprehensive astronomical data included
This includes data for well-known celestial objects such as Messier objects, NGC objects, IC objects, as well as the Sun, Moon, planets, comets, and dwarf planets.

High-precision alignment
By aligning with one or two stars, you can achieve reasonably accurate mount positioning. Aligning with three or more stars allows for highly precise alignment, ideal for high magnifications. Objects will be centered accurately within the telescope’s field of view. Alignment data is saved and can be retained even when the device is turned off. By leaving the telescope in its current state after an observation session, you can use the same settings for automatic setup during the next observation.

Customizable settings
Just like with the STAR BOOK TEN controller, the app offers various customizable settings, such as gear backlash compensation, red night mode, autoguider, variable GoTo speed, and LED brightness. You can also adjust when the optical tube flips (meridian flip). Even when the object moves south during tracking, you can prevent the telescope from flipping.

High-performance flattener and reducer set The kit consists of a high-performance flattener, a reducer for reducing the focal length, and connection rings (distance ring SD81, EX Tube 66), which were developed for prime-focus astrophotography with the SD81S, SD103S and SD115S telescopes. With normal lights, however, the light intensity is more important than protecting your eyes against bright light.
