FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

That is normal. Finder scopes are only used to make objects easy to locate. The image orientation does not matter for observation.

  • Alt-azimuth: easy to use, moves horizontally and vertically
  • Equatorial: enables precise tracking of objects with only one axis – ideal for high magnifications and astrophotography

  • Moon: from 30 mm
  • Planets: from 100 mm
  • Deep sky: from 150 mm

Product information "Vixen finder scope 7x50 with crosshairs and illumination"

Thanks to the large aperture of 50 mm, the Vixen 7x50 finder scope immediately reveals many objects that are not visible in smaller viewfinders. This makes it easy to adjust the telescope to the target object. The red illumination of the finder scope can be dimmed to different levels.

The eyepiece is detachable (31.7 mm diameter) so that a CMOS camera with 31.7 mm diameter (available separately) can be attached and used as an autoguider. The eyepiece unit with crosshairs is also removable in order to use 31.7 mm diameter eyepieces (sold separately) with different focal lengths. This allows the finder scope to be operated with various magnifications.

The lens is designed to be compatible with CMOS cameras. The distance between the bottom of the 31.7 mm sleeve on the camera side and the sensor surface should be approximately 17 mm. However, the focus position may vary depending on the camera, so you should adjust the guiding camera for focus before use.
The focus of the optics is adjusted by rotating the lens. First, the black lock ring on the main optics must be loosened. Then, the focus can be adjusted by turning the lens mount. Please also read the operating instructions for the viewfinder and the CMOS camera used.
If the focus of the viewfinder has been adjusted, the focus position must be readjusted when using the eyepiece unit.

Vixen VA225C Autoguider Camera
The Vixen VA225C autoguider camera is designed to tackle common challenges in astrophotography, such as atmospheric interference and minor tracking errors that can cause star trails during long exposures. When paired with an optional guide scope, this highly sensitive colour CMOS camera continuously monitors star positions and automatically adjusts your equatorial mount in real time to correct for any deviations. This allows you to capture sharp, long-exposure images — especially useful when using telescopes with longer focal lengths. Beginner-friendly operation The VA225C makes it easy for newcomers to get started with autoguiding. Simply connect the camera to your telescope mount using the included ST4 cable for fully automated tracking control. The dedicated “Vixen Autoguider” PC software offers three preset guiding modes — City, Suburban, and Dark Sky — tailored to different viewing conditions. You can also fine-tune the settings to suit specific locations and atmospheric conditions if needed. Accurate polar alignment — without a polar finder With its built-in plate solving functionality, the VA225C allows for precise polar alignment without the need for a separate polar finder. You can check the alignment accuracy in real time via the software interface and make direct adjustments on the spot. This feature simplifies your setup process and ensures optimal conditions for successful astrophotography sessions. Exceptional sensitivity and flexible connectivity Thanks to its excellent light sensitivity, the VA225C can reliably detect suitable guide stars even with very short exposures. The camera comes with a 1.25" nosepiece for connection to guide scopes or off-axis guiders, a 1.25" filter thread (M28.5x0.6), and a C-mount thread (1" x 1/32"). We recommend the Vixen 7x50mm Finder Scope II (sold separately, item no.: X086161) as a guide scope. Its parfocal design ensures the focus remains consistent when switching between an eyepiece and the camera — so your guide star stays locked in view. Vixen Focal Reducer V0.71x VSD90ss/VSD70ss
Focal length reducer for the VSD90ss and VSD70ss with two ED lenses designed for high-end astrophotographyThe two ED lenses maximise the photographic performance of the VSD90ss and the VSD70ss, which are designed for both photography and visual observation. The reducer can illuminate an image circle of 44 mm (suitable for a 34x36 full-frame format). The reducer has a very sophisticated design as it contains four elements in four groups, including 2 ED lenses. Thanks to its larger lens diameter, it offers significantly improved image illumination compared to its predecessor, the smaller V0.79x reducer. The star distortion at the edges is also reduced to an absolute minimum. The focal length of the VSD90ss telescope is shortened by about 0.71x and the focal ratio is reduced from 5.5 to 3.9. This results in a super-fast f3.9 astrograph, capable of fully illuminating a full-frame DSLR camera.FEATURES    Magnification: 0.71x    Focal length VSD90ss: from 495 mm (F5.5) to 351 mm (F3.9)    Illumination: 44 mm    Lens design: 4 elements in 4 groups, including 2 ED lenses    Coatings: AS coatings (99% light transmission per surface)    Connection thread: M84mm, pitch 1 mm (male thread)    Connection thread for a camera: M60 mm, pitch 0.75 mm    Filter thread: 60 mm diameterSCOPE OF DELIVERY    Focal Reducer V0.71x    2 mm Allen keys    Dust caps
