FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

For this application we recommend the BRESSER Erudit DLX 40-1000x microscope in combination with a USB camera, e.g. the BRESSER MikroCam 1.3 MP. This solution offers better image quality and flexibility than a simple LCD microscope.

If you want to identify bacteria, it is usually more useful to create a culture. Microscopes are generally only sufficient to determine whether the bacteria are, for example, spherical or rod-shaped.
The Barlow lens is already installed in the eyepiece tube on many devices. It can be pulled out at the upper ridge to use the zoom function.
Possible causes:

  • Sample too thick / unsuitable: Use thin samples or fixed smears.
  • No cover glass or incorrect thickness: Objectives are optimized for cover glasses.
  • Condenser incorrectly adjusted: Do not open the diaphragm too far – otherwise contrast will be low.
  • Magnification too high: Rule of thumb: maximum 1000 × objective aperture. Example: With a 40x objective with aperture 0.65, the limit is about 650x.

BRESSER Set Microscope Slides
Slides and cover glasses are an indispensable accessory which has also impact on the image quality. For most biological microscopes, the cover glass thickness is an important optical parameter, which is therefore included in the optical design and, if so, printed on the sleeve of every objective. You can usually see the number 0.17 which is the thickness in millimeters. For demanding applications in the laboratory, or for microphotography, using cover glasses with the desired thickness and high quality is necessary. The cover glasses included in the set are made of Boro 3.3 glass and are standardized to a thickness of 0.16-0.19mm. So they match the desired 0.17mm really good and give the best possible image quality. These Boro 3.3 cover glasses are pure white, without streaks and are pre-cleaned and ready to use. They are also especially suitable for fluorescence microscopy. The slides are made of soda lime glass, and have ground edges for safe handling. They have a matte field for writing on both sides (top and bottom). Slides and cover glasses are packed separately and in a vacuum sealed bag, containing moisture absorbent. They can be stored for a long time without loss of quality from hydrolysis and are easy to take out.

Cover glasses, 100 pcs. 24x50mm Boro 3.3
Extra big cover glasses made from pure white, smooth Borosilicate glass (Boro 3.3). These cover glasses are especially suitable for liquid samples, like plankton or cell culture media. Also useful for skin scrapes from Koi or ornamental fish. You can diagnose a bigger sample volume in one go, making the diagnosis faster and more reliable. The sample will not dry out as fast as usual.Boro 3.3 is a high tech glass material with excellent surface and optical quality. Keep in mind, that the cover glass is not only a cover, but works as an optical element and will influence the resulting image quality. Most microscope objectives are designed for cover glasses of a certain thickness (Usually 0,17mm; marked on the objective). The cover glasses are precleaned and ready to use.Boro 3.3 glass is highly transparent and has excellent surface quality. For UV it is significantly more transparent than soda-lime glass and therefore especially suitable for fluorescence microscopy.SCOPE OF DELIVERY 100 cover glasses 24x50 in plastic box.  Incl. drying agent, vacuum sealed.

BRESSER Microscope Science TRM 301 with MikroCamII 20 MP camera
The high-quality combination set consisting of the professional Science TRM-301 microscope and the powerful MikroCamII 20 MP is the ideal solution for demanding applications in the laboratory. It combines precise optics with modern camera technology – perfect for research, teaching, and documentation at the highest level. The Microscope in DetailThe BRESSER Science TRM-301 is a trinocular transmitted light microscope of top class: Excellent image reproduction, good ergonomics, high stability, and an appealing design characterize it. As a fully usable laboratory microscope, it finds wide application in medicine, biology, agriculture, and industry. It is also highly recommended for the dedicated hobby microscopist as a ''microscope for life''.A particularly important feature of the TRM-301 is its ability for so-called Köhler illumination. Through this optimal specimen illumination, which is exceptionally bright, cool (specimen-friendly), uniform, glare-free, and high-contrast, the performance of the microscope optics is fully utilized. It therefore represents the standard in scientific work and in microphotography. The Köhler illumination can be adjusted with the fixed built-in field diaphragm and the height-adjustable and centrable Abbe condenser (numerical aperture 1.25; with iris diaphragm).Of course, the TRM-301 also features the other typical equipment for high-quality microscopes: with a cross table that moves transversely and longitudinally with Nonius scales, ergonomic coaxial focusing drives (the fine drive achieves 200 µm/revolution), stepless lamp dimmer, plan achromatic objectives (4x, 10x, 40x, 100x-oil spring), 10x wide-field eyepieces (in 30° inclined eyepiece tubes), inter-pupillary distance and diopter adjustment, as well as a photo tube.FEATURES OF THE MICROSCOPETransmitted light microscopeHead type: TrinocularMagnification: 40x - 1000x2 eyepieces: both WF 10x (23mm)4 objectives: 4x, 10x, 40x, 100x oilObjective type: Plan achromaticCondenser: Abbe N.A. 1.25Illumination: 12V/30W halogen with dimmerSCOPE OF DELIVERY OF THE MICROSCOPEMicroscope2x eyepiece4x objectivecoaxial cross table with Nonius adjustmentImmersion oilDust coverPower supply 12V, 4AThe Microscope Camera in DetailThe BRESSER MikroCamII 20 MP 1'' microscope camera is the professional solution for documentation at the microscope and features the largest sensor in the MikroCam series with a side length of 13.06 x 8.8 mm. This allows for large image fields to be captured. Depending on the microscope model, for example, the eyepiece field of view can be fully documented with this camera (for a 10x eyepiece / 22mm). Other cameras often capture less than 50% of the eyepiece field of view. The Sony IMX183 CMOS sensor has extremely low noise at high light sensitivity, making this camera also excellent for dark field or phase contrast shots. The MikroCam Lab II software offers a variety of different functions, such as measurement in live image (calibration specimen required), mosaic image creation, focus stacking (for increased depth of field). All automatic functions (exposure time, sensitivity, white balance, etc.) can also be set manually.Due to the large sensor, the camera is not optimally suitable for every microscope. There may be edge shading (vignetting) in some cases. This shading is usually corrected by a 1x optic (Art. No. 5914001), which is screwed into the camera. This camera is not designed for the trinocular tube of the ETD-201. With this microscope, only a small part of the image field can be used.FEATURES OF THE MICROSCOPE CAMERAHigh-quality metal housingMany software functions, such as measurement, focus stacking (to overlay multiple recordings for increased depth of field), mosaic (to display larger image fields)Image and video recording, including time-lapse functionGood compatibility with various microscopesHigh-speed USB 3.0 connectionModern Sony IMX183 sensor 13.06 x 8.8 mm (1'')1/4'' tripod thread, e.g. for a photo tripodC-Mount thread: for easy adaptability, also suitable for C-Mount objectivesSYSTEM REQUIREMENTSWindows 10 or 11Intel i3, i5, i7 or i9 processor from 6th generation orAMD Ryzen processorOptical drive or internet connection for software downloadUSB 3.0, 3.1SCOPE OF DELIVERY OF THE MICROSCOPE CAMERACamera headUSB 3.0 cable23.2 mm adapter, 30 mm and 30.5 mmRecording and image processing software (for Windows)
