FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

For this application we recommend the BRESSER Erudit DLX 40-1000x microscope in combination with a USB camera, e.g. the BRESSER MikroCam 1.3 MP. This solution offers better image quality and flexibility than a simple LCD microscope.

If you want to identify bacteria, it is usually more useful to create a culture. Microscopes are generally only sufficient to determine whether the bacteria are, for example, spherical or rod-shaped.
The Barlow lens is already installed in the eyepiece tube on many devices. It can be pulled out at the upper ridge to use the zoom function.
Possible causes:

  • Sample too thick / unsuitable: Use thin samples or fixed smears.
  • No cover glass or incorrect thickness: Objectives are optimized for cover glasses.
  • Condenser incorrectly adjusted: Do not open the diaphragm too far – otherwise contrast will be low.
  • Magnification too high: Rule of thumb: maximum 1000 × objective aperture. Example: With a 40x objective with aperture 0.65, the limit is about 650x.

Product information "BRESSER Stereo Trinocular Microscope Analyth STR 10x-40x with MikroCam MINI Full HD HDMI camera and MINI HDMI screen (13.3")"

Practical stereo microscope set for precise observations and clear images: This set combines the Analyth STR Trino stereo microscope with the MikroCam Mini HDMI camera, a 13.3" Full HD monitor, and a 0.5x reduction lens. It is well-suited for accurate analyses, live observations, and documentation of results.

The microscope in detail

The Analyth STR Trino features 3 different objective magnifications that can be easily switched by rotating the objective. This allows for direct switching between magnifications of 10x, 20x, and 40x. The stereo design shows structured objects particularly vividly and three-dimensionally. The low 10x initial magnification is especially suitable for working with children, allowing objects up to 20mm in size to be fully viewed. The Analyth STR is therefore particularly flexible in use. It is suitable for insects, plants, minerals, and much more, with applications in hobbies, schools, and professions. The stereo microscope can be used for quality control, horticulture, and environmental studies among other things.

The trinocular tube allows for the comfortable connection of a camera. The microscope is compatible (depending on the adapter) with microscope cameras, DSLR, and system cameras.
Ask us which adapter you need.

The interpupillary distance and diopter adjustment are individually adjustable. The eyepieces have a large field of view of 20mm. They are equipped with removable rubber eyecups and are secured against removal.

The microscope can be powered either by the power supply or by 3 batteries (not included). This makes it portable, for example, outdoors in the garden or on an excursion.

The microscope camera in detail

The MikroCam MINI Full HD HDMI is a particularly compact HDMI camera. A PC or laptop is not required for operating the camera; you can simply connect the MikroCam MINI Full HD HDMI to an existing monitor, TV, projector, or smartboard. This makes it ideal for use in the classroom. Alternatively, a small monitor from BRESSER can also be mounted directly on the camera (see item no. 5914120).

The HDMI connection is easy to make, and the camera is ready to use immediately. No software installation, PC setup, etc. is required. Due to the lossless data transmission, very good image quality is achieved, and the image is always displayed with a consistently high frame rate of 60 fps and without delay. This is particularly advantageous when a microscope workstation, for example, in quality control or production, needs to be digitized.

To control the camera, the included USB mouse is connected. This allows you to navigate the three menus (camera settings, measurement*, and display).
*To take measurements with the camera, a calibration specimen is required (e.g., item no.: 5916710 or 5916720).
The camera is also very suitable for presentations, as it operates in automatic mode when the mouse is not connected. The menus and mouse pointer are then not visible.

Please note that a direct PC connection is not possible. An HDMI to USB video capture device is required for that. The USB port is only for controlling the camera with the mouse.

FEATURES OF THE MICROSCOPE CAMERA
  • HDMI connection for direct connection to a monitor, TV, projector, or smartboard
  • C-Mount thread for easy adaptability to various microscopes (manufacturer-independent)
  • Compatible with USB sticks or SD card readers (max. storage size: 512 GB)
  • No PC/laptop necessary

SCOPE OF DELIVERY OF THE MICROSCOPE CAMERA
  • MikroCam MINI Full HD HDMI with C-Mount connection
  • Power supply (12 V / 2A)
  • USB mouse
  • HDMI cable (approx. 1.5 m)

The display in detail

The Full HD display is the ideal complement to the BRESSER MikroCam Pro HDMI and MINI HDMI
The display can be mounted directly on the camera with an adjustable holder. The screen delivers brilliant images without artifacts, as the display has the same resolution as the output image of the camera. With the set of MikroCam and HDMI display, almost any trinocular microscope with camera connection can be upgraded to a digital microscope. This allows for observation independent of a PC.

The size of the display is optimally chosen so that the microscope user can microscope as usual while simultaneously viewing the image on the monitor. The display provides optimal image quality with a wide viewing angle of 178°! This allows multiple people to view the image without loss of quality.

The image from the microscope camera is displayed on the HDMI screen always without delay and with a high refresh rate of 60 FPS. The representation via HDMI microscope camera on an HDMI monitor is therefore usually of better quality than using a USB camera on a laptop or PC. This is particularly advantageous when work is to be carried out under microscopic control.

Many users also benefit from improved ergonomics when the image can be viewed on the HDMI display. Especially higher magnifications with their high numerical aperture can be uncomfortable for eye problems such as floaters. Digital viewing can provide relief here.

The display can be powered with the included Y-cable using the same power supply as the camera. A suitable, short, angled HDMI cable is also included, preventing cable clutter at the workplace. The mounting on a MikroCam PRO or MINI is done using two screws. Screws and tools are included in the delivery.
