FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

For this application we recommend the BRESSER Erudit DLX 40-1000x microscope in combination with a USB camera, e.g. the BRESSER MikroCam 1.3 MP. This solution offers better image quality and flexibility than a simple LCD microscope.

If you want to identify bacteria, it is usually more useful to create a culture. Microscopes are generally only sufficient to determine whether the bacteria are, for example, spherical or rod-shaped.
The Barlow lens is already installed in the eyepiece tube on many devices. It can be pulled out at the upper ridge to use the zoom function.
Possible causes:

  • Sample too thick / unsuitable: Use thin samples or fixed smears.
  • No cover glass or incorrect thickness: Objectives are optimized for cover glasses.
  • Condenser incorrectly adjusted: Do not open the diaphragm too far – otherwise contrast will be low.
  • Magnification too high: Rule of thumb: maximum 1000 × objective aperture. Example: With a 40x objective with aperture 0.65, the limit is about 650x.

Product information "BRESSER Microscope Science ADL 601 P 50-600x with MikroCamII 5MP HIS camera"

The high-quality combination set with the professional Science ADL-601P microscope and the powerful MikroCamII 5MP HIS is the ideal equipment for demanding applications in the laboratory. It allows both reflected and transmitted light observations in excellent image quality – perfect for precise analyses, illustrative documentation, and versatile use in research and quality assurance.

The Microscope in Detail

The BRESSER Science ADL 601 P is a professional transmitted and reflected light microscope. The microscope base contains a halogen transmitted light illumination (20 W) as well as the power supply and the two continuously adjustable dimmers for reflected and transmitted light. The two trinocular microscope heads combine both illumination functions, as well as the possibilities for photography and binocular observation; the inclination of the eyepiece tubes is 30°. With the polarization attachment, material science or apparatus technical investigations can be carried out in research, teaching, and production. The halogen reflected light illumination (20 W), which goes through the objective onto the object, can be modified for special applications using a color filter wheel and a polarizer/analyzer combination. Overall, the BRESSER Microscope Science ADL 601P is a unique instrument in terms of price-performance ratio, which also has the further typical equipment for high-quality microscopes: four-objective revolver, with a cross table that moves horizontally and vertically, coaxial focusing drives (fine: 200 µm/revolution), eyepiece distance and diopter adjustment, as well as a photo tube. Optional general accessories include wide-field eyepieces (WF10x, WF16x), measuring eyepiece (WF10x), various plan achromatic DIN objectives (e.g. 4x, 5x, 10x, 20x, 40x spring-loaded, 60x spring-loaded, 100x-oil spring-loaded), the Abbe condenser (numerical aperture 1.25; with iris diaphragm and additional lens), dark field condensers (dry and oil), immersion oil, and a phase contrast device.

The Science ADL-601P combines a biological transmitted light microscope with a reflected light microscope. This also allows surfaces to be examined at the highest resolution!

The Microscope Camera in Detail

The BRESSER MikroCamII 5MP HIS with the very light-sensitive and low-noise Sony(R) IMX264 sensor is excellent even in difficult lighting conditions. The camera operates with a global shutter. This prevents distortions with moving objects.

If there is enough light, the extremely short exposure time of up to 1/50,000 seconds can also practically freeze fast movements.

The MikroCam Lab II Software offers a variety of different functions, such as measurement in live image (calibration specimen required), mosaic image creation, focus stacking (for increased depth of field). Furthermore, almost all automatic functions (exposure time, sensitivity, white balance, etc.) can also be set manually.

The functions: Mosaic and focus stacking (EDF) can be generated directly from the live image. This can save a lot of time.
Even if you are not a professional, you can achieve quick success. To optimally use the mosaic function, a cross table is required.

Due to the large sensor, the camera is not optimally suitable for every microscope. There may be edge shading (vignetting) in this case. This shading is usually prevented by a 0.75x optic (Art. No. 5914007) that is screwed into the camera.

This camera is not designed for the trinocular tube of the ETD-201. With this microscope, only part of the image field can be used.
