FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

For this application we recommend the BRESSER Erudit DLX 40-1000x microscope in combination with a USB camera, e.g. the BRESSER MikroCam 1.3 MP. This solution offers better image quality and flexibility than a simple LCD microscope.

If you want to identify bacteria, it is usually more useful to create a culture. Microscopes are generally only sufficient to determine whether the bacteria are, for example, spherical or rod-shaped.
The Barlow lens is already installed in the eyepiece tube on many devices. It can be pulled out at the upper ridge to use the zoom function.
Possible causes:

  • Sample too thick / unsuitable: Use thin samples or fixed smears.
  • No cover glass or incorrect thickness: Objectives are optimized for cover glasses.
  • Condenser incorrectly adjusted: Do not open the diaphragm too far – otherwise contrast will be low.
  • Magnification too high: Rule of thumb: maximum 1000 × objective aperture. Example: With a 40x objective with aperture 0.65, the limit is about 650x.

The Microscope in Detail

The BRESSER Science ADL 601 P is a professional brightfield and darkfield microscope. The microscope base features a halogen transmitted light illumination (20 W) as well as the power supply and the two continuously adjustable dimmers for brightfield and darkfield. The two trinocular microscope heads combine both illumination functions, as well as the possibilities for photography and binocular observation; the inclination of the eyepiece tubes is 30°. With the polarization attachment, material science or apparatus technical investigations can be carried out in research, teaching, and production. The halogen brightfield illumination (20 W), which goes through the objective onto the specimen, can be modified for special applications using a color filter wheel and a polarizer/analyzer combination. Overall, the BRESSER Microscope Science ADL 601P is a uniquely priced instrument that also features the further equipment typical for high-quality microscopes: four-objective turret, cross table with transverse and longitudinal movement, coaxial focusing drives (fine: 200 µm/revolution), eyepiece distance and diopter adjustment, as well as a photo tube. Optional general accessories include wide-field eyepieces (WF10x, WF16x), measuring eyepiece (WF10x), various plan achromatic DIN objectives (e.g., 4x, 5x, 10x, 20x, 40x spring-loaded, 60x spring-loaded, 100x oil spring-loaded), the Abbe condenser (numerical aperture 1.25; with iris diaphragm and additional lens), darkfield condensers (dry and oil), immersion oil, and a phase contrast device.

The Display in Detail

The Full HD display is the ideal complement to the BRESSER MikroCam Pro HDMI and MINI HDMI
The display can be directly mounted on the camera with an adjustable holder. The screen provides brilliant images without artifacts, as the display has the same resolution as the output image of the camera. With the set of MikroCam and HDMI display, almost any trinocular microscope with camera connection can be upgraded to a digital microscope. This allows for observation independent of a PC.

The size of the display is optimally chosen so that the microscope user can microscope as usual and view the image simultaneously on the monitor. The display provides optimal image quality with a large viewing angle of 178°! Thus, several people can also view the image without loss of quality.

The image from the microscope camera is displayed on the HDMI screen always without delay and with a high refresh rate of 60 FPS. The representation via HDMI microscope camera on an HDMI monitor is therefore usually of better quality than using a USB camera on a laptop or PC. This is particularly advantageous when work under microscopic control is to be carried out.

Many users also benefit from the improved ergonomics when the image can be viewed on the HDMI display. Especially higher magnifications with their high numerical aperture are uncomfortable for eye problems such as floaters. Digital viewing can provide relief here.

The display can be powered with the included Y-cable using the same power supply as the camera. A suitable short angled HDMI cable is also included, so that cable clutter at the workplace is avoided. The mounting on a MikroCam PRO or MINI is done using two screws. Screws and tools are included.
