FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
For this application we recommend the BRESSER Erudit DLX 40-1000x microscope in combination with a USB camera, e.g. the BRESSER MikroCam 1.3 MP. This solution offers better image quality and flexibility than a simple LCD microscope.
If you want to identify bacteria, it is usually more useful to create a culture. Microscopes are generally only sufficient to determine whether the bacteria are, for example, spherical or rod-shaped.
The Barlow lens is already installed in the eyepiece tube on many devices. It can be pulled out at the upper ridge to use the zoom function.
Possible causes:
- Sample too thick / unsuitable: Use thin samples or fixed smears.
- No cover glass or incorrect thickness: Objectives are optimized for cover glasses.
- Condenser incorrectly adjusted: Do not open the diaphragm too far – otherwise contrast will be low.
- Magnification too high: Rule of thumb: maximum 1000 × objective aperture. Example: With a 40x objective with aperture 0.65, the limit is about 650x.

The modern CMOS sensors deliver brilliant colors with very low image noise, making them the perfect solution for applications where natural color reproduction is essential. The included capture software allows for numerous settings when capturing still images and videos. An integrated measurement function* allows for measurement directly in the live image. The included software supports the following languages: German, English, French, Polish, Turkish, Chinese.
The housing features a C-Mount connection thread. For use on devices with a 23.2 mm mount, optional reduction optics, e.g., 0.5x (Art. No. 5914005), are available. For special applications, the camera can also be mounted on the integrated 1/4" tripod thread.
