FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

For this application we recommend the BRESSER Erudit DLX 40-1000x microscope in combination with a USB camera, e.g. the BRESSER MikroCam 1.3 MP. This solution offers better image quality and flexibility than a simple LCD microscope.

If you want to identify bacteria, it is usually more useful to create a culture. Microscopes are generally only sufficient to determine whether the bacteria are, for example, spherical or rod-shaped.
The Barlow lens is already installed in the eyepiece tube on many devices. It can be pulled out at the upper ridge to use the zoom function.
Possible causes:

  • Sample too thick / unsuitable: Use thin samples or fixed smears.
  • No cover glass or incorrect thickness: Objectives are optimized for cover glasses.
  • Condenser incorrectly adjusted: Do not open the diaphragm too far – otherwise contrast will be low.
  • Magnification too high: Rule of thumb: maximum 1000 × objective aperture. Example: With a 40x objective with aperture 0.65, the limit is about 650x.

The Microscope in Detail

The BRESSER Erudit DLX is a high-quality study microscope for a wide range of applications, such as in school, university, or as a hobby. The dimmable LED lighting of the Erudit DLX and a centrable and height-adjustable condenser (with iris diaphragm and filter holder) ensure optimal illumination. The achromatic DIN objectives provide excellent imaging. The 40x and 100x objectives are spring-loaded to prevent damage to the specimen. The microscope features a 360° rotatable monocular view, coarse and fine focusing, and a coaxial cross table with vernier.

The Microscope Camera in Detail

The MikroCam MINI Full HD HDMI is a particularly compact HDMI camera. No PC or laptop is required to operate the camera; you can simply connect the MikroCam MINI Full HD HDMI to an existing monitor, TV, projector, or smartboard. This makes it ideal for use in education. Alternatively, a small monitor from BRESSER can be mounted directly on the camera (see Art.-No. 5914120).

The HDMI connection is easy to make, and the camera is ready to use immediately. No software installation, PC setup, etc., is required. The lossless data transmission ensures excellent image quality, and the image is always displayed with a consistently high frame rate of 60 fps and without delay. This is particularly advantageous when a microscope workstation, e.g., in quality control or manufacturing, needs to be digitized.

The supplied USB mouse is connected for control. This allows you to navigate the three menus (camera settings, measurement*, and display).
*To perform measurements with the camera, a calibration slide is required (e.g., Art.-No.: 5916710 or 5916720).
The camera is also very suitable for presentations as it operates in automatic mode when the mouse is not connected. The menus and mouse pointer are then not visible.

Please note that a direct PC connection is not possible. An HDMI to USB video capture device is required for this. The USB port is only for controlling the camera with the mouse.
